Who these terms come from
I am William Beem, and I write and operate william.beem.us from Florida, in the United States. These terms apply when you read the site, comment on a post or download a resource. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
My Privacy Policy explains what data the site collects and how I handle it.
My posts are opinion and education, not advice
I write from my own experience in IT leadership and identity and access management. Nothing on this site is professional, legal, compliance or security advice for your environment. Your systems, regulations and risks differ from anything I describe, so test what you read against your own facts, or get advice from someone who knows them, before you act on it.
Reading the site, commenting or writing to me creates no consulting, advisory or other professional relationship between us. Results depend on your organization, your people and many factors I can’t see, so I promise no particular outcome from applying anything I write.
My views are my own
Everything I write here reflects my own views. It does not represent the views of any current or former employer or client. When I name a company I worked for, I name it as part of my history, and naming it implies no endorsement by me or by that company. I do not disclose confidential information from any employer or client.
Products and trademarks
I name products, such as identity platforms, only to describe a situation. I do not review, rate or rank them, and no vendor pays me or gives me anything for a mention. This site carries no ads, affiliate links or sponsored content.
Every product name and trademark on this site belongs to its owner. Naming one implies no affiliation with or endorsement by that owner.
How you may use my posts
I own the copyright in what I write and publish here, unless a post says otherwise.
- You may share links to any post.
- You may quote short excerpts, with credit to me and a link to the original post.
- You may not republish a whole post or a substantial part of one, or present my work as your own, without my written permission.
How you may use my downloads
You may use my downloadable resources yourself and share them inside your own organization, as long as my name stays on them. You may not sell them, publish them publicly or offer them for download anywhere else.
Comment rules and moderation
Comments are open on posts so readers can test the ideas, including against their own experience. Every comment must:
- stay on the topic of the post;
- challenge ideas, not people, with no personal attacks, harassment or slurs;
- leave out sales pitches, vendor promotion and links posted for search rankings;
- leave out confidential information from your employer or anyone else’s;
- contain nothing unlawful and nothing that infringes someone else’s rights.
Akismet screens every comment for spam. Your first comment waits for my approval. Once I approve one, later comments under the same name and email address appear right away. I may edit, hold or remove any comment, and I may block anyone who breaks these rules.
You keep ownership of what you write in a comment. By posting it, you let me publish and keep it on this site. Comments reflect the views of the people who write them, not mine.
Links to other sites
I link to other sites for sources and context. I do not control those sites, I am not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement.
No warranty
I write carefully, but I provide this site and everything on it as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted availability. Information goes out of date, products change, and I can be wrong.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss or damage that results from your use of this site, your reliance on anything I write or your inability to use the site. That includes indirect or consequential loss, lost profits and lost data.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow me to limit, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you live in the EU or the UK, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you.
Governing law
Florida law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about this site or these terms belongs in the state or federal courts located in Florida. If you live in the EU or the UK, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms as the site changes. When I do, I update the date below, and the version posted here applies from that date. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
